It is important to have a strong conclusion, since this is the last chance you have to make an impression on your reader. The goal of your conclusion isn’t to introduce any new ideas, but to sum up everything you’ve written. Specifically, your conclusion should accomplish three major goals:
The paragraph below is an example conclusion. As you read, think about what each sentence accomplishes within the paragraph. What sentence(s) restates the essay’s thesis statement? What sentence(s) summarizes the essay’s three subpoints? What sentence(s) leaves the reader with an interesting final impression?
Getting a better job is a goal that I would really like to accomplish in the next few years. Finishing school will take me a long way to meeting this goal. To meet my goal, I will also prepare my résumé and search for jobs. My goal may not be an easy one to achieve, but things that are worth doing are often not easy.
Notice that the first sentence restates the thesis. The second and third sentences summarize the essay’s subpoints. Finally, the fourth sentence leaves the reader with an interesting final impression.
No new information is presented in this paragraph. Instead, the writer sums up what has been written so far and leaves the reader with a last thought. While the content of the paragraph is very similar to the introduction, the paragraph itself is not exactly the same. This is important. Even though the goal of the conclusion is to restate a lot of the information from the introduction, it should sound different because the conclusion’s purpose is slightly different from the introduction.
Practice writing a conclusion using the sample essay topic and the thesis statement. Remember to support the points you have gathered. Remember to restate your thesis, summarize your subpoints, and leave the reader with an interesting final impression.

Conclusions are just as important as introductions. The conclusion closes the essay and tries to close the issue. The aim is to convince the reader that your essay has covered all the most important arguments about the issue and that your main premise is the best position on the issue. You should not present any new arguments in your conclusion.
Many students find it difficult to write a conclusion. By this time they may have done so much work on the body of the essay that they just want to finish the essay off as quickly as possible and so they write a rushed and badly written conclusion. But the conclusion is the last part of the essay that your reader will see. Spend some time on carefully writing the conclsuion so that you give your reader a good final impression of your essay.
Lets look again at the conclusion from the model essay on Marine Parks:
In conclusion, these parks should be closed, or at the very least, no new animals should be captured for marine parks in the future. Our society is no longer prepared to tolerate unnecessary cruelty to animals for science and entertainment. Task 1: The three parts of a conclusion
A simple introduction to an argumentative assignment has three parts. Read the following description of the parts. Then circle the sentences in the conclusion above which cover each part and write the number for each part in the margin next to it, e.g. for the first part draw a circle around the sentence(s) that restate(s) the main premise and write "1" in the margin next to it.
The three parts to a conclusion:
Restates the main premise
Presents one or two general sentences which accurately summarise your arguments which support the main premise
Provides a general warning of the consequences of not following the premise that you put forward and/or a general statement of how the community will benefit from following that premise

Now put the following sentences into the correct order. They make up the conclusion to another argumentative essay. The main premise of this essay is that the government should spend more money on childcare places for the children of parents who study or work.
If we fail to meet our obligations in this area, we will be sacrificing our present and future well-being merely in order to appease out-dated notions of family life and to achieve short-term financial savings.
In conclusion, it is essential that we support the nation's parents and children by funding more childcare places.

Most writers have trouble writing a good conclusion. One exercise that might help you write a good conclusion is to wait until after you've written a good first draft. Try moving the introductory paragraph. or the one with the thesis statement. to the end of the draft. Write a new introduction. Five common ways of concluding a paper:
Use the devices for introductory paragraphs, such as providing an interesting anecdote or relevant statistics, but avoid using the same exact device in both the introduction and the conclusion.
Summarize the main points of the paper. Do not just re-hash them though! Find a way to re-invent the ideas stated in the introduction and body of your paper.
Show the significance relative to the reader.
Call for awareness and/or action.
Point to the future by making suggestions or offer solutions.
What to avoid in a concluding paragraph
Do not go off the track. Avoid introducing an entirely new idea or adding a fact that belongs in the body of the paper. Your conclusion should flow from the rest of the paper. An effective conclusion should not detract from the central message of the paper.
Do not just reword your introduction. Avoid simply listing the main idea in each topic sentence or restating the thesis. While a summary can refer to those points, it must tie into what was covered in the essay. A good test is to check if the introduction and conclusion are interchangeable. If they are, you need to revise. Remember: Don't repeat. re-invent!
Do not announce what you have done. Avoid statements such as "In this paper I have tried to show that. "
Do not apologize. Avoid casting doubt on your material by making statements such as "I may not have thought out all the arguments, but. " or "Even though I am not an expert, I feel that what I have said is correct
How to write a conclusion?
* Conclusion is the most important part of your report. It is a brief summary-paragraph, about half a page. You must write your own conclusion, after completing the data collection and analysis. It must be written as the last piece and attached after data tables and graphs.
* Conclusion should state things that are unique for your investigation which can be accomplished by including values of the experimentally determined physical quantities. Just remember that you cannot write your conclusion without completing your experiments or investigations. General statements like "I have determined the densities of given solids" is not acceptable.
* You may start your conclusion by re-stating the purpose with appropriate changes. Then you need to briefly state (don’t repeat procedure) how you conducted the experiment and collected the data. Continue this with summarizing your results, referring to the data tables and graphs when appropriate, and answer the purpose. Then you may discuss about some of the difficulties you had, errors and their possible causes, and suggestions for improvement. Describe your reasoning using physics terminology and principles. You should explain as completely as possible what goes through your mind that leads you to your conclusion. While we encourage you to discuss the investigations with your partners, your conclusion must be your own thought
Writing a good conclusion is not easy. Do not simply repeat your main points, because the reader has read them already. One of the most important things to do is to think about the message that you want to leave the reader with and write a conclusion that leaves the reader with this message. After all your hard work – so what? What did you discover? What was the point of the essay?

Here is a possible conclusion for the essay:
In conclusion, it does seem that there are some very real economic and social benefits to be enjoyed from the number of migrant workers that have come to the UK recently. The strain on public services has been blamed on immigration, however it is the government that has failed to put extra money into these services whilst reaping the rewards of economic growth and greater tax revenues. It is not sustainable to follow an ‘open door’ policy towards European workers without supporting communities to cope with a bigger population. The current level of immigration can only continue to be beneficial if the national and local government respond to the needs of a bigger and more diverse population.
This conclusion is a strong one because:
1. It briefly mentions the main points of the arguments made earlier in the essay.
