The presentation has two distinct parts:

A FACTUAL presentation on an aspect of your portfolio theme.

A presentation about your research including an evaluation of two sources of information used to prepare your factual presentation.

It will have all the following 6 elements present:

1. An introduction (statement of topic)

In the introduction you will give a brief explanation of topic/ theme and a preview (with a thesis statement) of what you are going to cover.

For example:
"My theme is Returning Migrants toGuyana. Returning migrants or returnees are a group within the population of Guyana who have spent a significant time away from their homeland and have then returned to permanently settle again. Returning migrants. According to statistics from the Customs Department given to me by Mr K Loakman in an interview, 2284 people claimed the concession for returning residents in 2008. Returning migrants experience 5 phases of adjustment when returning which can be termed as “culture shock”."

N.B. YOU CANNOT HAVE THIS ON YOUR CARDS WHICH YOU TAKE INTO THE EXAM. It would look like this:

Theme ; Returning Migrants to GT.
group within the population of GT
a significant time away from their homeland
returned to permanently settle
Customs Department (Mr K Loakman) “2284 people claimed the concession for returning residents in 2005”.
Returning migrants experience 5 phases of adjustment when returning which can be termed as “culture shock”.

In the rationale you need to explain why you picked the theme and it can form part of the introduction. In the rationale you should mention any personal interests, current academic links and future career plans which influenced your decision to choose the theme

Cape Communication Studies Specimen 2003 Sample Answer - College Essay

Cape Communication Studies Specimen 2003 Sample Answer

Module 3: Specimen 2003.

It is often regarded that rural farmers may not be taking the necessary precautionary actions when using harmful chemicals on their farms. Therefore, in light of that fact, it is significant to conduct a presentation on the precautions the need to take when using harmful chemicals on their farms. In the presentation, communicative challenges will be considered, language variety, vocabulary and register will be considered and organisational strategies, visual and other aids will be employed.

An initial communicative challenge that may be present in addressing the audience of rural farmers is an unwillingness to adopt and embrace change. The rural farmers may have old and traditional practices that they may already be accustomed to. They may not want to shift or change the chemicals being used and the way they use them as they may prefer to use the ones they originally used and the ways they originally used them. The challenge here would be to convince the rural farmers to take the most precautions when using the chemicals on their farms or to use safer more environmentally friendly chemicals.

Additionally, another communicative challenge is to not seem too educated and complex to the rural farmers. The message should not be conveyed fully in Standard English because it would imply a condescending tone and it may distance the farmers from the message. Also technical terms should be avoided because they may not be able to understand what is being said. Everyday terms should be used especially when speaking about the chemicals. Therefore, the challenge is to make the farmers comfortable and ensuring that they understand what is being said while conveying the message in an appropriate tone.

Furthermore, a third communicative challenge is that the farmers may lack interest in the presentation and as a result they may become bored. The presentation must be short, concise and interesting to seek.

Internet Communication essays

MegaEssays.com Internet Communication

Interest in communication has been stimulated by advances in science and technology, which, by their nature, have called attention to man as a communicating creature. Among the first and most dramatic examples of the inventions resulting from technological ingenuity were the telegraph and telephone, followed by others like wireless radio and telephoto devices. The development of popular newspapers and periodicals, broadcasting, motion pictures, and television led to institutional and cultural innovations that permitted efficient and rapid communication between a few individuals and large populations; these media have been responsible for the rise and social power of the new phenomenon of mass communication.
There are five revolutionary mass communication mediums that were characterized by Al Reis in his most recent book, “11 Immutable Laws of Internet Branding”. The first mass communication vehicle was the book, where it served as a channel to distribute information in an organized and orderly fashion. The book was the dynamic mechanism behind the spread of technology, which made it easier for past generation to gather and collect information to be distributed on a wider scale that was not possible without the help of the book.
The second medium of mass communication was the introduction of the newspaper, which was an easy and affordable way to share information and made news available to people on a daily bases.
Then came the radio, where it introduced the power of the human voice including the emotions that accompany it. The radio served as a mass communication medium in two aspects, it delivered the intended news and information to a larger audience instantly, and it made the message behind the broadcast more believable for the mere fact it was produced by a human, who manipulated the presentation by embedding his emotions to serve his/her purpose.
The television then appeared to sweep the world off of its feet, and to brin.
