The Internet Essay, Research Paper

Imagine life today without the convenience of the Internet. People would actually have to get up out of their comfortable chairs, get in their cars, and drive to the store, the library, the mall, or wherever they wanted to go. Wouldn’t that just be a shame? But the Internet has not always been used for the entertainment, in the beginning it was only used by military personnel for communication reasons. In fact, if you were not a computer expert or a genius, you could not even begin to figure out the very complex system known as the Internet. The Internet is the child of several marriages: The government to science, and the telecommunications industry to the computer and software industry. The Internet was the result of some visionary people in the early 1960’s who saw great potential value in allowing computers to share information on research and development in scientific and military fields. In, J. Licklider, proposed a global network of computers, and moved to the Defense Advanced Research Projects to develop it. One of Lickliders colleagues, Lawrence Roberts, came close to connecting the first computers in California and Massachusetts, but because the telephone’s circuit switching was inadequate the connection was unable to be established. It was not until 1966 that the first Internet was actually conceived. Originally, This project was only meant to be a small network connecting super computers amongst researchers in the United States. This network became known as the Advanced Research Project Agency(Net) or the ARPANET

The innovators of this network wanted to see the ARPANET connect more than just super computers, they wanted people around the United States to be able to use the ARPANET. In 1967 these innovators went to the Association of Computing Machinery Symposium and presented papers to legalize their endeavors. In 1967 they were approved by the ACMS to continue their work, and in 1968 the first software and networking hardware were designed, and by 1969 the ARPANET had connected four universities in the southwestern United States. These schools included: Stanford Research Institute, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah. By 1971 fifteen more schools had been added to this network including a university in Hawaii. Although the Internet was constructed for military purposes it was slowly moving away from those roots. The network was becoming so commercial that librarians began automating and networking their catalogs. By 1973 the ARPANET had gone international, making connections with schools in London, England and Norway. In 1974 the first commercial version of the ARPANET was opened by Telenet. With the commercialization of the ARPANET, the general public wanted to see how the Internet could be used in daily life. The ARPANET is moved to the Defense Communications Agency, where it did not have to be kept under wraps any longer. With this move the Internet was ready for the world of e-mail. In the mid to late 1970’s people began to engage in conversations over the computers, but there were still a few glitches to be worked out before It was to be opened to the public.

Internet changed our lives

Internet changed our lives

The role of Internet in our lives is great. It has made the world easier.

Nowadays information is one of the most expensive and important things. One of the advantages of the Internet is the information research. The Internet gives you the opportunity to get any kind of information very quickly. If you looked for that information in books, it would take you much more time to find it. Besides, books don't give us fresh information. The Internet makes it easier to study without attending private classes. If you have the power of will and ability to work alone without a coach, you can study without attending private classes and get the result you need without paying for the education. You can read many articles, be aware of the latest news. As for me, I study economics and it would be impossible for me to study by only reading books and lectures and to get a good result. If I want to know the unemployment rate of the USA,I will never look for it in books, as the books won't give me the latest figures. The Internet gives us fresh and prompt information.

Second, you can communicate with your friends and relatives by using social network services, such as Facebook. You can exchange messages, join common interest groups and do many other things there. You can see and speak to your friends and relatives by using Skype. You can communicate with them even when you are on different continents. Out of sight is no longer out of mind!

Finally, you can meet many people from different countries without visiting them. You can talk to them, exchange thoughts, learn about their countries and cultures. The impact of the Internet on Globalization is really great. It's clear now that the world is connected through a complex web of transnational networks. The Internet helps us to understand the world we live in, to become a part of the global world, and at the same time remain an independent part of the whole.

So, I think it's impossible to imagine our lives without THE Internet.

If somebody had told me five years ago that I would spend all of my free time in front of my computer screen I would have called him crazy. Internet Essay | Essay Advantages and Disadvantages of the Internet

Summary: The proliferation of Internet technologies has both advantages and disadvantages. The capabilities for information retreival and communication are infinite, but children can be exposed to illicit material, individual privacy is threatened and it's a virtual medium rather than a physical one.

Everywhere you look in today's society, the internet is a major part of everyone's life. Whether its school, business, personal life, or entertainment, the internet has influenced us immensely. When the word internet is heard, one has an image of what it represents, but what really is the internet? According to Oxford Dictionary, the internet is: "a system of connected computers that allows computer users around the world to exchange information." Currently, about one third of the world has access to the internet. Personally, I have accepted the invention of the internet to be a world revolution. I would define the internet to be an exceptional learning and entertainment tool that can be used in a variety of ways to enhance a user's ability to gather information. Although the internet is very beneficial to society, one has to keep in mind that the internet can harm its users.

Internet - Influence of Entertainment Media

Internet - Influence of Entertainment Media

The Internet has changed how we see Entertainment Media. We used to watch television, mainly, the news and comedies. With the web, we have every kind of show, video game and news show at our fingertips. If people see something, they can upload it from their phone to the web in about three seconds. The Entertainment Media has shaped the American culture in more ways than we can begin to understand. “Television, movies and the Internet, are having an effect on mankind that would have been unimaginable a century ago. The media- print and electronic-shape our lives and our minds in ways fail to realize and with sobering effect”. With the Internet, there’s instant gratification. You get to the story you want immediately, if someone uploads a video you’re interested in, you can access it quickly. The Entertainment Media, isn’t all bad, there are so many good aspects of it. You can use it for school, research so much information. Everyone has used “Google”, UTube or Facebook, and many other reputable sites. We are always on the Internet, more hours than most people need.

The affect of Entertainment Media is mostly positive. Our daily lives is so entwined with the Internet. We use it to stay in touch with our family, traveling, make Doctor’s appointments, and so many other uses. The Media has opened doors for people’s careers. Being able to see the jobs available anywhere at anytime is amazing. Where more aware of news in this country and abroad. We heard about Paris instantly, getting any updates as they were occurring. There are so many books, stories and sites we can utilize without a negative impact.

The negative affects of Entertainment Media, is if a group “spread’s the message”, it can be the cause of a violent outbreak. Being addicted to violent gaming can be so damaging to a person’s life. Children/Teenager’s brains don’t grow the way they should with hours of violent games. Teenage girls following the “skinny” movie star, may feel pressure to lose weight, adding pressure to an already awkward stage of life. They can get Anorexia or Bulemia. By not fitting into what they think they should look like, that thought process can have a negative impact on their life The ads for all the junk food, can also add to childhood obesity. Children see McDonald’s ads and bug the parents for a “Happy Meal”. Not that one “Happy Meal” will cause childhood obesity, but the wrong meal choices, can and will.

Whether the Entertainment Media is a catalyst of Social Behaviors and attitudes, depends on a persons character, morals and ethics. The Internet is here for good, and as long as people do their research on what sites are reputable, and fact based problems could be eliminated. Parents need to be responsible for the amount of time their children are on the
