Description

Application Master - RWTH AACHEN UNIVERSITY

This information applies to German citizens, international prospective students with a German university entrance qualification certificate or a German university degree, who are interested in any Master course of study. Application Master Online Application

The portals for the 2016/17 winter semester will open on May 9, 2016.

International Prospective Students

We explain the application process for all other international students at:

It's great that you have decided to pursue a Master's course of study at RWTH Aachen. There is nothing standing between you and your application for a place at RWTH Aachen!

We differentiate between restricted admission Master's courses of study and open admission Master's courses of study. You can find more information about this on our webpages about the Allocation Process for Master's Courses of Study .

Please use the current RWTH Info or our courses of study to determine whether your Master's course of study has restricted or open admission.

Applications for a Master's course of study at RWTH Aachen can only be submitted before the admissions deadlines listed below. At the end of the application portal you must print out your application materials, sign them, and submit them with other documentation by the end of the deadline at midnight to the RWTH Aachen Registrar's Office. If the deadline is on a Sunday, federal holiday, or a Saturday, the deadline ends at the end of the corresponding day and is not extended to the next business day.

These are final deadlines, meaning applications are not accepted after the deadline has passed! It is possible to submit additional documentation for restricted admission Master's courses of study during the winter semester till August 15 and till February 15 for the summer semester. There is no deadline for submitting additional documentation for open admission Master's courses of study. For these courses of study, your educational background is reviewed using the documents submitted by January 15 for the summer semester and July 15 for the winter semester. It is unimportant if you have completed a Bachelor's degree at the time of application.

Peculiarities for the Selection Process in the Business and Economics Master's Course of Study

The School of Business and Economics has decided that in addition to the preliminary Bachelor's grade, the result of a subject-specific study aptitude test, the so called TM-WISO, will be counted for 51 percent in the selection process.

We highly recommend taking the TM-WISO test. Applicants who do not take the test will have zero points assigned to the test result during the selection process.

Please note that there a limited number of dates available to take the test. Find out about dates, deadlines, and locations, where the test will be offered, as early as possible at www.tm-wiso.de .

Peculiarities for the Selection Process in the Molecular and Applied Biotechnology Master's Course of Study

The Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences has decided that in order for an applicant to be allocated a Master's placement for the molecular and applied biotechnology course of study at RWTH Aachen, they must fulfill the educational background prerequisites stated in the examination ordination and that it will conduct a selection process, in which the final Bachelor's grade is weighted 51 percent and the result of a subject-specific study aptitude test (e-test) is weighted with 49 percent.

We highly recommend taking the e-test. If you don't, you will enter the allocation process with zero points listed as your test result.

Please note that there are limited number of dates on which the e-test will be offered. Information about deadlines, dates, and locations will be available on this page no later than June 1.

Checking the Status of Your Master's Application

Here you can view the current status of your Master's application. You are also informed about missing documents here. We recommend checking the status of your application before the application deadline to ensure that no documents are missing and that you can participate in the allocation process. The Registrar's Office will only inform you that documents are missing through this tool. It is your responsibility to regularly check your application status.

The Further Mathematics Support Programme - Revision Days

Revision days archive

Revision days are a great opportunity for students to spend a day on intensive examination preparation.
A Revision Day usually focuses on the content of a specific unit, e.g. Core 1, Mechanics 1. Sometimes Revision Days are for one awarding body's specification only but often students are split into groups so that the day can cover more than one awarding body's specification. Most Revision Days are open to any student - please contact the Revision Day organiser to confirm whether this is the case, for details of costs and to confirm your attendance.

The majority of Revision Days are hosted at a university. This has many benefits; school and college students value greatly opportunities to experience learning in a different, new and inspirational environment that a university can bring. Generally there is also the opportunity for students to find out more about university courses and how they can build upon the mathematics that they are learning at school/ college.

Revision Days are also an excellent CPD opportunity for teachers.
They provide a very time-efficient means for teachers to get an overview of a module, from basic content through to addressing tricky aspects of examination questions. If you are a teacher and would like to attend a Revision Day on this basis then please contact the organiser.

Airline Tax - IELTS Sample Essay

The following essay is on the topic of airline tax.

You are asked to decide if you agree or disagree with taxing airlines in order to reduce the problems that the increasing amount of air traffic can cause.

It is always a good idea to look at both sides of the issue. and this essay does this.

So you need to brainstorm:

  1. the reasons why this would be a good solution
  2. the reasons why it would not
  3. and of course decide which side of the argument you agree with .
Model Essay 19

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Air traffic is increasingly leading to more noise, pollution, and airport constuction. One reason for this is the growth in low-cost passenger flights, often to holiday destinations.

Some people say that government should try to reduce air traffic by taxing it more heavily.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

Write at least 250 words.

Low-cost Airline Tax - Model Answer

Over recent years there has been an enormous increase in the amount of air traffic around the world resulting in various problems, and a major cause of this has been the growth of low-cost airlines. Although some people believe that taxes should be increased for air travel, I disagree.

Those that support taxing airlines believe that this will result in a reduction in this type of travel and thus solve the problems of pollution, noise and construction. This is because a tax would make the cost of travelling more expensive, which will, they claim, lead to a decrease in demand. Proponents of this solution believe that taxes are fair because everyone has to pay them and it is a workable solution that will have the additional bonus of providing an income for the government.

However, there are a number of reasons why this is not the right course of action. Firstly, a tax is not fair because it will adversely affect people on lower incomes. Such a tax would have to be a fixed amount paid equally whether you are rich or poor, which means that those on lower incomes would find it more difficult to travel, but it would likely have little effect on the lives of those with a higher income. In addition, such a tax would not work. For example, we have seen taxes increase in most countries on cars, but this has had little affect, with car use continuing to grow.

To sum up, it is evident that introducing heavy taxes on air travel is not fair or workable. If we continue to explore alternatives, we can continue to enjoy the benefits that air travel offers.
