It's hard to think about that day. Who knew it would be the last day I would spend with her. It still feels like a fresh nightmare that just happened last night. But it didn't. It happened over two years ago and I was still struggling with this new reality. I didn't like it. I hated it. How could this be? Why? It wasn't fair! I argued with myself. But all I really heard was a haunting silence waiting on me.

That morning was a beautiful April morning. Spring was in the air, the birds were chirping. It was going to be a good day because my best friend was getting married and today was her wedding. We were only 20 years old but she knew her marine was the one. I was a bridesmaid and had a busy day ahead of me full of getting my hair and make-up done. Though I was excited, these types of events often stressed me out as I suffered from anxiety.

“Mom!” I shrieked. “My dress isn't fitting!” I can't believe this is happening. It fit me fine a couple months back. Did I gain weight? Oh no, this is terrible.

“What is it, Marie?” My mom said as she came rushing in. She noticed I was unable to fully zip up the back of my dress. My mom sighed. “Didn't you go to the fitting a month back so they could make adjustments?”

“No! I didn't think I needed to! That's beside the point now. I have a wedding to be in and I have to wear this dress! I can't just go put on another dress!” I screamed. My emotions were running high and I was taking my stress out on her. I was thinking the worst, like usual. This is a trait I hate about myself but yet I never have tried to change it.

After a couple attempts, a few anxiety attacks, and some screaming, my mother finally was able to zip my dress up. I let out a huge sigh of relief. “Thank-you mom! You're super woman.” She laughed and said to get on my way to Jessica's wedding.

I finally made it to Jessica's where we immediately started to get our hair and make-up done. Ever

Essays on My Life After 9/11

In the contemporary world, terrorism is considered to be one of the major threats to the existing world order. In actuality, it is hardly possible to find a person who is absolutely ignorant of the threat of terrorism or who does not care about this threat. Paradoxically but a bit less than a decade ago I was such a person as well as millions other Americans who did not really take the threat of terrorism seriously. Naturally, we heard about terrorists and terror attacks and we even suffered from some terror attacks, such as Oklahoma City bombing, for instance, but all these terror attacks seemed to be so remote from us that we did not really believe that we could become victims of terrorists. However, the situation has changed dramatically after terror attacks on September 11, the darkest day in the history of the US, at least in the contemporary history of our country. For me, in person, it was a particularly shocking even because I had witnessed the effects of these terror attacks with my own eyes and I do not think I will be able to forget these horrors some day.

In fact, today, we understand that terrorism has really become a global problem at the end of the 20th at the beginning of the 21st centuries, when organized terror attacks shaken the world and after which some politicians had started to speak about a new world order. In this respect, the terror attacks on September 11 became a turning point not only in the history of the USA, but also in the world history and history of terrorism. After the terror attacks on September 11, as Jessica Hamblen says, “the nation was forever changed” (42), as well as the whole world and the global society. These words perfectly characterize what has happened to Americans after these attacks. At any rate, I, personally, have changed dramatically. I wish I had been somewhere faraway from New York and from the US on that day, but, unfortunately, I was there and I saw the destructions. Even though I have not seen as the towers fell, I still witnessed the disastrous effects of these terror attacks. Shortly after the terror attacks, when I closed my eyes I saw the huge destructions caused by the terror attack. Huge buildings, symbols of New York were totally ruined, the remnants of various materials, some parts of furniture were the only things that remained from the two towers. However, the most shocking was the moment when I had seen a person who died under the ruins of the tower. It was a young man, probably in his early 20s, though it was difficult to define his age because his head was practically smashed by a boulder or by some heavy item that practically smashed his head. His face, or what used to be his face was covered in blood and some tissues which hang down his skull. Strangely, but his body was not hurt as much, but it was obvious that the man was young and full of strengths and I thought “he could have live a long life, have a family, kids and now he’s gone”. But what was the most difficult for me to understand was the reason why this man as well as thousands of other people had to die. What was the point of all this terror? Frankly speaking, I could not have found an answer for this question at the moment. I think it was the result of the shock and probably the lack of information.

We were told that it was Al Qaeda that was responsible for the attacks, but, as the time passed, I doubted whether it was the real cause of the terror attacks. In other words, I attempted to understand the causes of these terror attacks and motive of Al Qaeda and, especially those people, terrorists, who died in these terror attacks. I believe these people should have really strong motivation to commit these suicidal acts which took the life of thousands of people and affected the life of the entire nation.

Waking up to your cousin's voice saying "they took your mom away in an ambulance," is one of the worst ways to wake up. Especially when you are only seven years old. On the night my mom was taken to the hospital many tests were ran on her to see why she suddenly had a very violent seizure. Soon after, they diagnosed her with a cancerous brain-tumor. She held strong through all the surgeries and chemo-therapy sessions that went on for two years. After all the miserable hospital visits she got tired of it and wanted to stay home and forget about treatment - the doctor gave her three months to live. It was almost impossible to crawl out of bed every morning just because I knew that my mom might not be with me anymore. She lived for another six months before she finally passed away. I woke up one morning and walked into the living room where my mom had been living for four months, too weak to walk into her bedroom. My grandmother's eyes were misty and I could tell something was wrong. My dad softly called me over and I shook my head and turned to leave. No news was best for me. My dad called my name again and I turned and walked over to him. He gently sat me on his lap on told me that my mom hadn't made it through the night. I blinked back tears as I ran from the room. I went in my closet and cried. Now I look back at my nine year old self and realize that I knew it was coming, but nobody could ever be prepared for that. My dad taught me not to give up on those you love, but to help them through things the best you can. He was always there for my mom and for us kids. He took care of my mom, the house, and us, and even worked from home so he could be right there. I learned about the will to live and the value of life from my mom who wanted to hold on long enough for us to remember her. This experience in my life has made me stronger. I still go through rough times but I know the importance of looking at the positive side of things. My life was changed forever, but my experience has left me with a positive attitude on life and I thank my mom and dad for it.

Sample Essay 2 Written by Student

Throughout our lives, we have experiences that stay with us. These experiences

can either be life altering or have no influence at all. It is the life altering experiences that

stay with us, for example, it can be from your first day of college or experiencing a tragic

accident. These experiences leave a fine mark inside our minds, and we relate to these

experiences often to aid us through our struggles or glories. For me, my experience

happened when I was hospitalized at Valley Children’s. It was on my fifth day of recovery

that I would experience the tragic fate of a child that only had a few months to live, and

time was running out for him. My experience at Valley Children’s hospital made me realize

that life is short, and that in one instant it can be taken away.

It was a cool and breezy Friday, and in the midst the sun had barely shown its

shine. I could hear the helicopters flying back and FORTH, and the ambulance’s siren ever

so often. I lay in my hospital bed, exhausted from a lack of sleep, hoping to finally

experience the nice refreshing weather. For the past five days I could eat nor sleep, since

my surgery took a tremendous toll both on my mind and BODY. I was extremely weak

from the continuous flow of fluids entering into my bloodstream. My condition had gotten

from bad to worse right after my surgery, and the pain in my abdomen had increased tenfolds as well. For days I lay stranded in BED, and completely immobile as if I was paralyzed.

The nurses would continuously check my temperature, because I kept on getting a fever.

Finally when the fifth day rolled around, I felt I finally made some improvement. My pain

was no longer there, and I could finally gain control of my movement. I had felt a sense of

excitement, and I really wanted some fresh air. So I told my MOM ,WHO was sitting next to

me, that I wanted to go outside. She agreed and requested the nurse to bring me a

wheelchair. I struggled to get out of my bed and into my wheelchair, but I managed to do

so. My mom and I went onto the elevator, down to the first floor, and out the back

entrance leading to the outside. My mom dropped me off and left, because I told her that I

wanted to be alone. When I finally made it outside, I felt my a rush of fresh air and energy

throughout my body. The scenery was so beautiful, and I could see the snow on the

mountains in the far distance. I could the little kids playing in the play pen, and the nurses

keeping an eye. The older patients had remained inside enjoying their time socializing and

playing games. For me, I stared off into the distant, breathed in the fresh air, and enjoyed

my time. I never knew what was going to happen next.

I had caught glimpse of a little boy that looked very unusual. I knew

that it was wrong to stare, and I tried so hard not to. This was the first time that I had ever

seen a young boy look so pale and had a huge scar going through his head. He had no

hair, and he looked like he was only three years of age. NEXT TO HIM STOOD HIS MOTHER. And

I clearly could see how she felt. Her eyes told the amount of pain she was going through,

and her reluctance to even smile showed how deeply wounded she became. When I saw

this, I too felt a great deal of guilt and remorse, and that I wanted to find some way to help

her. Out of nowhere, the little boy comes running up to me. I was surprised, and somehow

I managed to gain the courage to ask the boy what was his name and how old he was. His

name was Adam, and he was four. I also started to play with him, and his mother finally

came over to get him. Before she left, I told her that she had beautiful child. She turned

around, and told me that he had only a few months to live because his brain tumor was

eating him alive. When she said that, I shattered and told her how deeply apologetic I was.

She nodded her head and left, and I realized she could not tolerate the pain that she was

going through. A couple of minutes later, my mom came and picked me up.

On my way back into my recovery room, I mentioned to my mom what just had

happened. She even shared her experiences with family she knew who had to battle

cancer. As my mom and I both shared each other's experiences, I saw a new meaning to

life. Life was no something to take for granted, but something to cherish. In one instant

that little boys life was going to end, and he has not even lived his entire life.

From that point on, I had realized that life was short, and you may never know

when your life could turn the other way. After that day I never saw Adam ever again,

but I still can create a vivid picture of my experience with him. It has been two years now.

Okay I know this probably sounds dumb, but ever since my husband cheated on me a year and a half ago I really just wished that the girl he slept with would die. Just the fact of knowing she can’t ever ruin anyone elses marriage and so that I can live with some piece of mind knowing she not around sleeping with other married men. If that isn’t the case when she gets married I would like to sleep with her husband just for her to know how it feels. She showed no remorse what-so-ever and I would like to give her a little pay back for the pain me and my child went through.

i have to say, shallow as it sounds, money would change my life for the better, right now… I feel ive made great progress in alot of other areas, relationships, health. spirituality, etc. and also even financially. but there are still things i would like to be able to have, give my daughter, not all of them are material. some are experiences, such as travel. visit some of the places we have read/heard/learned about. not saying i have everything else in the world but alot of money, im sure any day i will see or think of some non-monetary thing i want to develop or get involved in, im just saying that right now today, as my house is clean. my family and i are healthy, the thanksgiving food is cooking. i cant think of anything else i would want, or even anyone i would want to talk to.

I would like to ask that you leave this question open until after the Holiday weekend. (If possible!)I would really like to answer it but I would also like time to really think about what you are asking. Such a question should be greatly pondered, peering into not only your head but also your heart.Either way, on Monday I, myself will know!

They say money can’t buy happiness, and I agree, but lack of money can certainly bring on misery. For that reason, I say a substantial windfall would definitely change my life for the better. I’m not asking for the moon. I’d just like a chance to get ahead, pay off my debts, make sure my kids are set for college, put a nice chunk down on a house and also be in a position to help others in need. If every big jackpot lottery winner would give 10% of their winnings help the poor, there’d be a lot less poor in need of help. A big windfall would also allow me to do some things that I’ve always wanted but never had the means. Things like making my wife a stay-at-home mom, which is her desire, helping my mom and mother-in-law retire (lord knows they’ve both worked hard enough), take the kids to Disney World, visit family across the country and never worry about how I’m going to pay for anything I want or, more importantly, need.It may seem selfish but I know that part of the driving force for me is having the ability to share that wealth and help others that, like me, work their tails off but just can’t get ahead.

…. what to change my life wow i always ***** about my life and when it comes 2 it im not sure whats wrong maybe if i had more selfestem id be happyer

Nothing. I wont ramble and waste your time (Obviously you have quite a bit) but i will say that i have thought about this question and i don’t want to change my life. I don’t like certain parts of it but to change one small thing is to give up the whole and i cannot give up everything that i love to change one small thing.

10 Things To Do To Change Your Life Forever

10 Things To Do To Change Your Life Forever 10 Things To Do To Change Your Life Forever

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”

The one constant thing in our life is change. We cannot avoid it and the more we resist change the tougher our life becomes. Trust me, I know this because I was very skilled at deflecting change in my life. We are surrounded by change and it is the one thing that has the most dramatic impact on our lives. Change has the ability to catch up with you at some point in your life. There is no avoiding it because it will find you, challenge you, and force you to reconsider how you live your life.

Change can come into our lives as a result of a crisis, as a result of choice or by chance. In either situation we are all faced with having to make a choice – do we make the change or not? I believe it is always better to make changes in your life when you choose to rather than being forced to.

We however cannot avoid the unexpected events (crisis) in our lives because it is these events that challenge our complacency in life. What we can control when we are experiencing these challenging events, is how we choose to respond to them. It is our power of choice that enables us to activate positive change in our lives.

Acting on our power of choice provides us with more opportunity to change our lives for the better. The more opportunities we create to change our lives the more fulfilled and happier our lives become. Here are 10 things that you can do in your life that will change your life for the good, forever:

1. Find Meaning In Life

Spend some time trying to sort out what is important in your life and why is it important. What is it that you want to achieve in your life? What are your dreams? What makes your happy? Your meaning in life gives you purpose and sets the direction of how you want to live your life. Without meaning you will spend the rest of your life wandering through life aimlessly with no direction, focus, or purpose.

2. Create A Dream Board

When we were children we would daydream all the time. We were skilled at dreaming and visualising what we would be when we grew up. We believed that anything was possible. As we grew into adults we lost our ability to dream. Our dreams became hidden and once we started to feel like achieving our dreams was impossible.

A dream board is a great way for us to start believing in your own dreams again. Seeing our dreams every day on a dream board brings our dreams to life. Our dreams become real and we start to have believe in the possibility of achieving these dreams.

3. Set Your Goals To Achieve Your Dreams

Once you know what is important in your life and what your dream life looks like for you, you need to take action and set your long-term, medium, and short-term goals. It is acting on these goals that enable you to achieve your dreams

Remember your goals may change. Always be flexible with setting and achieving your goals as things in life change and your goals need to reflect these changes. It’s the small steps that you take that create the momentum for change to happen in your life.

4. Let Go Of Your Regrets

Regrets will only hold you back in life. Regrets are events of the past and if you spend all your time thinking about the past you will miss the present and the future. You cannot change what you did or did not do in the past, so let it go. The only thing you have control over now is how you choose to live your present and future life.

I had a heap of regrets that were holding me back in my life. I came across the “Balloon Exercise” and got rid of my regrets for good. What is it? It’s simple — blow up as many balloons as you need. On each balloon write a regret and then let the balloon go. As the balloon drifts off into the sky say goodbye to that regret forever. A simple and powerful exercise that works and can change how you live your life.

5. Choose Some Really Scary Things To Do And Then Do Them

This is all about you choosing to step out of your comfort zone. Public speaking is one of the most frightening things anyone can do. I was petrified of public speaking however, I knew that I wanted to be a motivational speaker. So I joined Toast Masters to overcome my fear of public speaking. My first speech was terrible, my knees were knocking, I broke out in a sweat and I couldn’t stop shaking. But I did it and the feeling of completing this speech, even though it was terrible was great. I chose to keep going and now I earn a living as a motivational speaker. I am still nervous when I get up to speak however it is an excited nervous and I love it.

Make a list of scary things that you would kind of like to do but are too afraid to. Put a plan in place and then go do them. Never stop doing scary things because if you do your life will become one of complacency and comfort.

6. Start Living A Well-Balanced Life

Our health does not remain the same. Our physical, emotional, and spiritual state changes, as we get older. What we can control however is how we feed our minds and our bodies. Living a balanced and healthy life builds our resilience to the physical changes of our body. Exercise is the best way in which we can attain a positive and optimistic attitude toward life.

Living a healthy, well-balanced life with lots of exercise is a lifestyle choice that without a doubt will give you a happier more satisfied and fulfilled life.

7. Face Your Fears

Its easy to ignore our fears and hope that they will go away. Unfortunately, it does not work like that. If you want to change your life, learn to master your fears so they can’t control you any longer. Our fears are only thoughts in our minds that are not real but over time we have become to believe that they are true. It is our fears in life that stop us from living our life to the fullest. We know when our fears are controlling our lives because we feel discontent, dissatisfied and unfulfilled.

Once we face our fears we take back our power to choose how we want to live our lives and when we do this we change our lives forever.

8. Accept You

The only person who is going to create change in your life is you! and to create that change you have to like you. There will be times in your life where you will face rejection and there will be people who will not like you that much. Accepting who you are and loving yourself helps you to move forward in your life. Putting yourself down all the time and wishing you could be better will only lead you to a life of unhappiness and discontent.

Find your courage, love yourself, and step out and do something crazy. Don’t worry about what anyone thinks or whether it is the right thing to do. In your heart if it feels right, act on it and go create the life you love.

9. Live In The Moment

Many of us tend to think that the grass is greener on the other side. Often, we get to the other side of the fence we find that this is not so. The motivation to change our lives comes from our desire to be happy. We are often so busy focusing on our pursuit of happiness that we miss the joy of actually living in the moment. Our desire to have happiness in our lives is a desire of a future state not of the present. We become so consumed with all our problems and discontent in the present we miss the precious beauty of the moment.
