The family was extremely excited that day. My parents had taken me to the mandir the previous day and my bag was packed with great care. I was to go to School for the first time in my life.
I was three years old and I still remember the day I first went to school. My father came to drop me to my classroom and helped me to get familiar with my teacher and class. I hated the thought of being away from home for so many hours. Tears rolled down my checks as I got off the car and held my father’s hand.
My father could sense my fear and tried to cheer me up by drawing my attention to the playground where the swings were inviting m e to come and play. I fet a little better as I saw many other boys and girls entering the class where I had to go.

off father left me in the room and drove to the house. I felt my heart sink as I saw go but I soon began to feel better. The son for this was the entrance of our teacher
Mrs. Smith. She was a kind lady who made all of us feel comfortable. Soon I realized that school was fun as Mrs. Smith taught us some songs and told us a few stories. She took the place of our mother in our school.
My partner began to share his lunch with me everyday. We became the best of friends and soon I fell in love with my school. However even today, when I think of my first day at school 1 remember the fear that I had and how my teacher and my friends helped me to overcome this feeling.
My memories of the first day at school haunt me till today. Never again have I experienced such a mixture of strange feelings. The anxiety of being in school along with the excitement of making new friends- all these made my first day at school most memorable and I long for the innocence and fun that was common among me and my friends.
I didn’t want to go, but I knew I had to. I couldn’t stay in the past and I knew I had to move on towards the future. As soon as I got there I wanted to leave. I didn’t belong and there was nowhere for me to go. I had to move forward and there was no turning back. I slowly lifted my head and looked straight ahead, taking my view away from the ground. As I took in a deep breath, I walked onto the campus.
As soon as I looked up I saw many, many faces and I didn’t recognize one of them. I was totally lost, in my own thoughts and on where I was. The campus looked huge and was so different then my old school. All I wanted was to go back to Red Bank and see all my old friends. However, I knew that wouldn’t happen so I waited with my mother and sister for the first bell to ring.
I quickly looked for my classroom, going down one corridor after the other. It didn’t take to long since my classroom number was 13 and the rooms were in numerical order. I gave my mom and sister a hug good-bye and asked them if they could take me home with them. My mom just laughed and nudged me into my class. As I looked around I noticed the room was very cozy, pictures of animals, cubbies on the front wall for our homework, it didn’t make me feel uncomfortable at all. However, I then noticed that everyone in there knew someone else, unlike me who knew nobody. I started to feel sick, at my old school I knew everybody! I wanted to cry, but I held it in knowing that I didn’t want to look like a big baby on the first day of school.
Since everyone was seated in groups, I scanned the classroom looking for a seat. I finally saw one, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to sit in that one. There was a girl with her foot on it and she looked like she wouldn’t move it for anyone. I still needed a seat so I decided to go and ask if, maybe, someone was already sitting there. So I went over and asked, “Is anyone sitting here?” and to my.

It was a cold day in New York and I just got off the plane with my little brother and my parents. I was looking at the scenery while I was in the car on the way to my uncle's house; we were looking for a house to move into. It was the very first time I have ever moved and also been out of my home state Florida. I was very curious and I was also very afraid what we will do now.
When we got to my uncle's house, we were treated like royalty. It was great seeing my uncle and my aunt. I met my cousin for the first time. He was the same age as me, so that was a relief. His name was Vinny; he had black hair, and had always worn a leather jacket. I also found out that he would be going to the same school and in the same grade, which was great because I didn't know anybody at the time. He gave me advice about people in New York and he told me there were a lot of crazy people that you don't want to mess with. He wasn't trying to jolt me. I understood he was just trying to help me.
The first day of school in New York was quite a culture shock. The school was huge and the classrooms were filled with old desks with gum under them. When the first period bell rang I walked into the classroom late because I had a hard time finding the class on my schedule. I tried sitting next to a boy and he said the desk was saved for someone else. I knew no one else was going to sit there because it was 5 minutes after the bell rung, so I just sat in the back of the corner alone, with no one to talk to. I had no one to talk to and I felt really lonely.
As the day continued, the students already gave me a nickname. They called me "The New Kid”. It didn't bother me at first, but when they started making fun of my clothes and saying that I wasn't cool enough for them, at that point, I was feeling like an outcast and that no one had even tried to appease me. It was very hard for me not to cry. I just got up and ran out of my health class, without telling.Related Essays:

Now I am in class VI but my first day at the school is still fresh in my memory because the day was difficult and also enjoyable for me. The date was 8 th January when I was given admission and got admitted in the school in class i. At that time I was six years old and I was going to school with my father in a rickshaw. After 20 minutes we reached out school gate. I was charmed to see the buildings, students and others of the school. After some times my father took me to the headmaster’s room. Gradually, my heart beat became fast. But his smiling face and gentle words put me at ease. He asked me my name and I told him my name. Then he pointed to a letter chart and asked me to say some letters. I could say them all. The headmaster then called a teacher to take me to my class. He welcomed me and gave me a seat in the class room. When I entered into the class everyone looked at me with great interest but they received me warmly. I felt very happy. After that period the boys of my class made fun of me and pulled my cheeks. I got annoyed and I told this to the teacher. She said that a brave boy always faced whatever came in his way so I shouldn’t cry. From this speech I got courage. Then I became quite normal and stopped crying. I even made a few friends and everything became all right. But 8 th January I still remember, the first day at my school.Related Posts: Buy A Complete WEB site only @4999 BDT Hello 01670 319 719 About the author 1 comment Riyadh

Fear started taking over. I was walking into my first school in America. I had traveled a long distance from India in order to join my mother, who had been here for three years, hoping America would help my future. My father decided that I would be better off going to school here, so I enrolled in the local high school in my new town.
I was afraid how I would do. I didn’t know anybody in my classes. On the first day, I went to my second period class after
I had missed my first. I was already confused because in India the teachers switch according to periods while most of the students have the same periods.
With anxiety on one hand and fear on the other, I reached for the door knob, opening it slowly. Everyone’s eyes were on me as I entered the room. Without paying attention to them, I went straight to the teacher and asked if this was the right class. With a soft voice he answered, “Yes.” His voice comforted me a little. He gave me a sheet called Course Requirements, which I would never get in India because we didn’t have anything like that. Then he asked me to choose where I would sit. I chose the seat closest to the door instead of the corner where all of the boys were sitting. I didn’t actually want to pick a seat. In India we had assigned seats, so I never needed to worry about that. I spent the rest of the class taking notes from the image produced by the overhead projector. In Indian schools, we didn’t use the technology we had. We had to take notes as the teacher spoke.
Since it was my first day, I was confused which hallway to use, but I managed to get to my classes without asking anyone. I was very confused about when I would have lunch. It was noon. I went to my next class and the bell rang as I entered. I went through the regular process of asking the teacher if I was in the right class. She said, “It’s still fourth period.”
“But the bell just rang,” I said.
Changing from a gentle tone to a harsher one, she said, “That is the lunch bell.” I apologized. Without another word I headed for the cafeteria. I felt lucky because we didn’t have this in India. Every confusion seemed like an obstacle I had to get through to reach my goal. At the end of the day, I was on my way to the bus which we didn’t have in India either. I spotted my bus and sat down inside happily. I was thinking, Today wasn’t so bad.
As time passed that year, I developed some friendships and started to love my school. I found out that U.S. citizens have many opportunities but not everyone is using them. Some people take them for granted, not realizing that other countries are struggling.
The teachers had a fun way of making hard things so easy that a three-year-old could do them. The teachers in my home country had a more strict way of saying things. We also had much longer school days in India – 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – while in America school was 7:30 to 2:30. The main difference I found in America is the amount I learned each day. In the U.S. schools I learned a lot less material. So, I had more prior knowledge than most of the kids in my class, which gave me an advantage. Because of these educational opportunities I feel I am the luckiest person in the whole world.

I'm from England, an I'm quite curious about other people's experiences of school from different countries. I like how you compared your experiences in India to those in America :) I was surprised about the times, though! In my school in England, we start at 8:40 (for form time) and first period begins at 9:00, and then school ends at 3:15. I can't believe how long school is in India! It must be exhausting.
Your essay made me think of my little brother Henry. He was adopted from China when he was fourteen. He's homeschoolded now, but he had to start public school without speaking English and practically no previous schooling. Even though I was born in America, I know what you mean about having a head start in academics. I tried public school in seventh grade (I'm homeschooled) and quit after the first semester because I didn't feel challenged. I'm lucky to have that choice. Anyway. (more » )

It is a nice and well written story. So,it reads well even to non-native speakers of English. I am a high school English teacher in South Korea. On the first day of this sememster, which was two two days ago, I shared with this story with my students. They all enjoyed it. We wonder the gener of this essay. Based on the content, I had a guessing game, but we couldn't reach the conclusion. Would you please let us know the gender of this piece? Thanks a lot!
My first day at Cashmere High
My alarm woke me up at 7 am. It was the 1st of February 2009. My body was still damaged from the yet lag of the long flight the day before. It took my eyes a couple of minutes to realize where I was, and what was about to happen the following day. I got out of bed, went into the bathroom to shower up before going upstairs for breakfast with my new Host family. My Host mother had told me the night before she would drop me of at School before going to work. I sad there around the table, wearing a black shirt and a colour full t-shirt and felt how every bite of toast was a effort to press down. I finished of my coffee and went downstairs to back my school bag.
Ten minutes later I was there. My host mother left in front of a door saying “Cashmere High head office” I Went inside and turned to the front desk immediately where a woman wearing a blue dress sat. I told her my name, and where I was from. She pointed me through another door going into a bigger hall way. There I found another 10 foreign student nervously standing around. We stood there for a while too shy to start the first conversation, waiting for someone telling us what to do. A short foreign looking lady came in to the room to greet us all welcome. Here name tag said “Mr. yogi, International support coordinator”. She was going to show us around the school for a start. We got handed a map, telling us where all the different classrooms were and how to find our way around. We walked around for what felt like ages. My mind was too occupied with all the new impressions to notice where she was taking us. She left us in the main hall with another 1800 student in uniform for the principles speech. All seats were taking, and the only place we could squeeze in was right in front of the stage on the left side. We stood there for about an hour listening to the principle greeting us all welcome to a new year at Cashmere high. Year 7 students were placed in the very front row. They all.
